gregor's room project.

Assignment:
Using only white copy paper (do not use card stock) make three paper sculptures that visually narrate The Metamorphosis. Employ elements and principles of design to visually communicate your intentions.

This assignment uses limited materials and does not allow the use of tape, glue or any other form of adhesive.

The three paper sculptures are to represent the setting discussed in The Metamorphosis and will be miniature.  The three sculptures are:
1.) A bed (must contain a mattress, a box spring, a bed frame, a headboard and at least one pillow and one blanket)
2.) Gregor
3.) Your Choice (I chose the couch that Gregor hides under.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For Gregor's room I went with what was required, the bed and blanket/pillow, Gregor and then I went with a couch. The bed was a bit of an experiment as I folded paper to make square poles. From there I made quite a few 'poles' and then used an Exto Knife to cut holes into the frame and put it together like a puzzle. For the mattress and boxspring, I used one sheet of copy paper for each, and made it into a rectangular box and stuffed it with paper to give it weight. The pillow and blanket were inked, then crumpled up (a lot) and stained with a tea bag to give it a really gross look.
Gregor himself is just a bunch of paper watered down and patted together and baked in a toaster oven. He was then inked with red, orange, black and brown (which turned him a black cherry color) and placed back into the toaster over, where he turned into a very ugly, hard bug.
The couch was essentially made the same way as the bed, just smaller, made out of posts. But because the couch had a little bit more weight and now as big, I ended up having to 'sew' the posts to stay up. For sewing, I cut tiny strips of paper and rolled them up and poked holes in the posts and strung the paper through. I inked it blue because it is a cold color and Gregor's family seemed very cold and harsh to him.
it took me a while to figure out how i wanted to achieve the bed frame look, finally i came up with this.
